STRIPES

Blazer: Rockit
Shirt: Ebay
Leggings: H&M
Boots: Ebay
Necklace: H&M

Stripey stripes...combined with my most loved fabric/leather leggings and boyfriend blazer makes for a perfect day-time outfit.

Everything Boyfriend in fashion from Boyfriend-Shirt as well as Jeans to coat and blazer is not only super cosy but also looks great by allowing layering and giving your look a masculine touch. I love to combine my oversized items with fitting clothes such as my fav leggings. These leggings, even though a couple of years old, have stood the test of time. They are a great add-on and statement item all at once. In addition, stripes whether horizontal or vertical -slimming or not slimming doesn't really matter- fact is stripes can make every outfit look fun but also elegant, allowing everyone to switch from day to night outfit in a heartbeat.

BLACK AND WHITE MEETS PINK...

Coat - TopShop
Shirt - TopShop
Jumper - TopShop
Jeans - TopShop
Rings - H&M
Bracelets - H&M
Watch - American Apparel
Boots - Ebay

I usually wear more colour than just going for the simple black-white combo but I feel that todays wintery London sun was calling for shades rather than colour. Plus the cute polka dots make up for what the outfit lacks in panache.
The coat on the other hand I will wear with EVERYTHING I own. I've bought it about 3 months ago and haven't been able to put it down since. It's pale pink colour gives everything an almost "sweet-candy-like-flair" and its cut is so elegant it adds a pinch of classiness to every outfit. Plus it is an oversized boyfriend coat, something I have been looking for almost an eternity as they always remind me of 90ies teen movies which I've always been obsessed with.
Same for the boots. I am petite but don't like to wear heels and finding these chunky boots was like finding a sack of gold.
Its strange if I find an item that I absolutely love I almost get consumed with it and I have to wear it with everything and to every occasion such as today I HAD TO WEAR THE COAT AND THE BOOTS even though I was just walking my dogs.
But I guess that's what makes certain items of clothing so irresistible, they:
  • remind you of things or times you love
  • fit every occasion
  • fulfil the right purpose
  • and
they just make you feel a certain way.

                                                                            Shoes:
                                                                        River Island

These pics were taken on a very cold but sunny London morning which is why I was not only wearing my fav big fat scarf but also was jumping around by the end. All that in an effort to keep myself warm.
I haven't worn this crop jumper which I bought from Rokit in Camden for at least a couple of months but every time I do I realise how much I love everything about it:
  • it's bright red colour
  • it's scratchy looking but not actually scratchy material
  • it's ability to evoke a nostalgic 90ies feeling in me
  • it's massive and cosy neck
  • it's perfectly fitted arms
  • its perfect "crop-iness"
like I said I love everything about this jumper.

WILMA FLINTSTONE'S SKIRT...

unbuttoned gives the very harsh leather skirt a very relaxed look...
while the buttoned up look gives the whole combo a ladylike flair....
take a better look at the details...

                                                                         Blouse:
                                                                       TopShop
                                                                           Skirt:
                                                            Camden Market London
                                                                           Boots:
                                                                           Ebay

Check out my “hand-me-down” skirt from Wilma Flintstone….yes it is the long lost leather skirt. A material that once was used to decorate our caves, a skirt that had its heyday in the 80ies and lost almost all of its magic during the 90ies has now come back with a vengeance.

Whether you want to be stylish, sophisticated or just plain sexy the leather skirt will never fail to get you noticed. Being extremely adaptable, this fashion item can be worn with anything, in any season and to fit any occasion. Pair it with a chunky knit to keep it casual for a long day of lectures, style it with a tucked-in blouse for a lady-like look for the office or vamp it up with a 90ies crop top on a night out. While back in the days of James HUNTER and Prudence GATHERER leather was used as a simple piece of clothing in order to keep us warm, today it fills our little “shopaholic hearts” with delight when it leaves behind the shell of simplicity only to take on a variety of shapes and shades from elegant pencil in red, through tan midi and mini to black or even green fun skater-style.

So when the day comes where a fashion statement needs to be made, do not shy away from the leather skirt which oozes with so much femininity and strength it will make you feel plain Rock & Roll.

DENIM DREAM...

Even though centuries have passed since the first emergence of denim from a little town in Italy, denim still is a fashion main-stay. Being a child of the 90ies jeans for me will forever be Brandon Walsh smiling “heart-meltingly” in a denim-on-denim combo, Anna Nicole Smith glancing over her shoulder seductively in her Guess jeans and Kurt Cobain tramping about in his ripped-jeans-grunge look. This fashion item has not only survived the cruel readiness of an industry to cast once hyped fashion trends away into oblivion as quick as one can say fashion blog; but also has overcome socio-economic boundaries, making itself attractive to old-young, poor-rich, hot-cold, exciting and boring.

However, the origins of jeans are a far cry from its fashionable flair today. In the late 1800s denim trousers or “waist overalls” as they were called back then were only worn by male workers such as cowboys or miners who needed strong and durable working clothes. Even though denim was a strong material the pockets easily tore from the trousers and a tailor called Jacob Davis had figured out a solution. In order to sell and patent his idea of adding rivets to the trousers he invited a young man named Levi Strauss to join his business venture. It is this collaboration that would eventually lead to the birth of jeans as we know them today. It wasn’t until the 1900s when jeans started to become popular, leaving behind their sole purpose of practicality. During this era Levi Strauss added his signature red flag to the garment, making jeans the first item of clothing to have an outside label, Vogue published its first denim-cover and teen icons like James Dean made denim the symbol of teenage rebellion. During the 60ies and 70ies Hippies had not only found a way to express their individuality but also the voice of a whole generation by personalising their jeans using bright colours, embroidery and patches. Finally in the 80ies and 90ies jeans had become high-end fashion when designers such as Calvin Klein, Jordache and Gloria Vanderbilt started to claim a piece of denim for themselves. Today, denim is as popular as ever. It is worn by anyone to any occasion, weather a student, a grandmother, a teenager, a lawyer or a factory worker everyone owns a pair of jeans. When trying to answer the question of what makes this garment piece so popular, its versatility and adaptability spring to mind. While, for example, leather trousers only come in one or two styles, denim trousers provide a huge range of types from boot to straight leg, high waist to low cut, ripped to stone-washed and boyfriend to skinny. Similarly, corduroys can be worn to some but not all occasions, while the jeans that were worn to work today can also be and will be worn to the big night out later that same day.

If fashion was a living being one can argue that denim is its most resilient virus, piercing through decades of human life, leaving its counterparts to the vast desert of “do you remember…”. While the corduroy and leather pants have vanished from the face of pop culture onto hangers of vintage shops, jeans have stood the test of time. Therefore, wearing jeans means more than merely making a fashion statement, it means being part of history.
